One holiday tradition we have is to hang all the holiday cards we receive up on a string that's tacked up above our doorways and windows. It's my husband's family tradition -- actually everybody in England does it -- and it makes the house look so festive!

One of our traditions is to attend the Christmas Eve children's mass then go out to dinner after. DH and I did this before we even had kids and we still do it. (Although now that we live in Iowa instead of Los Angeles, we have more trouble finding a restaurant that's actually OPEN on Christmas eve!)

My favorite tradition is chopping down our tree. We do it the first weekend in December. We get all bundled up and I always act like I don't want to go. The kids go crazy saying that we can't get an artifical tree. So I chuckle and we go find the biggest tree that we can possilby find that will fit in our living room. We spend so muh time picking it out, you would think we had to live with it for years. It's always totally perfect for us. I love it.

ReplyDeleteOne of our treasured family traditions is sending (and receiving) a Christmas ornament to family and close friends who we won't be seeing that year. We hang the absent person's ornament on the tree after dinner on Christmas Eve and send prayers, good thoughts and wishes their way for the upcoming year. asthenight at gmail dot com
ReplyDeleteMy favorite holiday tradition is we have an uncle that plays Santa and we stay up until he comes (he visits a few of my other aunts and uncles an also visits a couple neighbors in our neighborhood too :) ). So we keep listening outside until we hear his bells. Then all of us kids go get into our bed (lately we all just get into one bed). Then he comes in and asks us what we want for christmas and gives us an orange. After he leaves we go have our orange then head to bed. Oh and we have cookies and milk out for him and we go make sure he ate it :).
