Things to be thankful for

Sometimes in life it is hard to look outside of the "now" to find things to be thankful for. I know in my life bills, my moms health, my health concerns, my husband working nights and not being able to help me with things get me bogged down sometimes.

Today I decided to take the time to look all of things that I am thankful for instead of looking at all the negative things in life.

I am thankful for:

My family
My husband having a job ( even if I do not like the hours)
Having a roof over our heads
Having enough food to eat and not worrying about being hungry or where the next meal will come from.
My friends offline and online

There will always be problems and mad dashes that must be made each day but I think we need to think about the things we have to be thankful for everyday not just on Thanksgiving. There are so many people in this world that do not have the above to be thankful for. Even though we struggle with money and family issues, my life is blessed by the things I mentioned above. Thank you so much God for the blessings in my life.

Hug Meter low

Golfergirl walked up to me today and said her Hug Meter was low. I asked her what she meant by that. She looked at me and said "I have not had enough hugs today and the meter is low" It was so cute. Of course I hugged her. She was really limp in the beginning and the longer I hugged her the less limp she became. She said "As the hug meter got full she got stronger" It just made me want to cry. I told her anytime her "Hug Meter" was low just let me know and we would fill it to the brim.

I love these times with her. I know the days of the tween years are coming since she just turned 9 but boy do I love these times. I am so glad that I became a SAHM. It has made the budget kinda hard to meet some months but I would not give up this time with her for anything.

So don't forget to hug your child today because their Hug Meter could be low also.

My Poor Golfergirl and the Dentist

Golfergirl had to go the dentist today to have a small cavity filled or so we thought. She had this tooth that has been loose for a very long time but would not come out. The Dentist saw it today and said it had to come out because the other tooth was coming in behind it. So she did not have the cavity filled but a tooth pulled. She came out looking like she had been run over by a train. Her jaw was swollen and she had gauze hanging out of her mouth.

One bright point was that I got to feed her dinner since she felt so bad and was afraid she would hurt the spot where the tooth was. I fed her tomato soup. She is feeling better now and can not wait for the tooth fairy to come. I have to go now and make sure the tooth fairy knows that money must be left tonight.

Hope everyone has a wonderful rest of the day.

God does answer prayers

As most of you know Golfergirl has a goal that she is going to be the next female Tiger Woods. She has had this goal since she was 5. She has been taking lessons since she was seven. She is now 9 and still has the same goals. We had some hard decisions to make this week concerning her lessons. Our budget has had to be switched around since I am not working and Christmas is coming up soon. We turned the problems over to God and he answered our prayers. To give a little history on the problem:

We have been members of the local county club for the past two years so Golfergirl could play golf and get lessons. The membership dues started out at 100.00 a month which was a lot even when I was working. It was worth it for her to be able to work on her dream. As a parent you always want to help you child with their goals. We however, got a notice in the mail last week saying the November dues were going up to 130.00 a month. That was just really out of our budget. Golferdad was like we have to drop this no questions asked. I was however like, what are we going to do about her lessons. It would kill her not to be able to do golf. She has already given up basketball and cheer leading in order to be able to do golf. I could not take golf away from her.

I decided to start calling some other courses to see if I could find another coach for her. I called Kenny Perry's Country Creek golf course which is only about 10 minutes from my house. The club was about 20 minutes from out house. My prayers had been answered. They had some one that gave lessons to Golfergirls age and came to the Country Creek every Thursday. She had been to his Golf Camp this summer and loved him but I did not know if I could afford him.
He only charges $30 for a lesson. Before we were paying $35 a lesson plus the membership fee each month.

We had our first lesson on Thursday. I was nervous as to how Golfergirl would respond to a new coach and a new place to play from now on. I was nervous for nothing. She absolutly loved it. She hit the ball better than she had in months. Her whole attitude changed. She has even sit up a practice schedule on when she needs to practice at home. She never did this the whole time she was working with the other coach. I have nothing against the other coach. He was a very very nice man but he just was not the person Golfergirl needed to help her. I am so happy that we made this decision and it has worked well for her.

It is hard in these economic times and trying to work everything out has been very stressfull but God was with us leading us down the path that we needed in order to meet our financial needs and Golfergirls needs to meet her goals. I am so glad that I turned everything over to God and he helped up. Thank you God for helping us thru this tough time.

Teaching Kids About Healthy Eating Choices Looney Tunes Eating Right Campaign

While healthy eating remains a top priority for parents, childhood obesity continues to be a growing issue. It's simply not realistic to believe that kids will shun all junk foods but we can help them to balance the empty nutrients with a big dose of healthy good for you foods.

This week Warner Brothers and MomLogic are asking the following questions that have to do with teaching kids healthy choices

How do you teach your kids about healthy eating choices? What works for your family?

These were some questions that I had to really think about this week. I am always trying to get Golfergirl to eat healthy. She does make some choices on her own. She only drinks water, milk or kool aid. She does not drink soda at all. She says it is gross. The problem is she will be drinking her water while she eats all the chocolate she can get her hands on and chips. She never was to happy about eating her vegetables. This summer I had an idea that since I was not working we would plant a garden. This way she would have a hand in raising the veggies so maybe she would be better at eating them. She was so excited to begin this process. She got to help pick out all of the items that were planted. She thought she was so big getting to help make these decisions. We ended up planting , Tomato's, corn, peppers, lettuce, cucumbers, squash and several other veggies.

Golfergirl worked in the garden almost everyday. She could not wait for the veggies to be ready to pick. Now, she did not like all of the veggies that we planted. I was not expecting her to but the important thing was that she tired each of them. She learned that she loves tomato's, and peppers. Before the garden she would not even try them.

I would recommend planting a garden to everyone. I have gotten a lot closer to Golfergirl since I we have been working on this project. It gave us some one on one time and we talked about what it takes to get a garden to grow. She looked up information on the Internet and would be sure what kind of fertiliser that was needed for each veggie. She was very into it this year and can not wait to do it again next year.

This is what works for our family. Let me know what works with yours. I am always looking for more ideas because she will still chose fries over apple slices every time at the fast food restaurants.
