Ten Tips for Ensuring a Healthy, Safe and Happy School Year

Twittermoms and Airwear have asked us to post our Ten Tips for Ensuring a Healthy, Safe and Successful School Year.  This is in promotion of Airwear’s essay contest at www.LighterSaferGreener.com. Airwear and fellow TwitterMom, Beth Aldrich, are sponsoring an essay contest for consumers, encouraging parents and care-givers to share how they plan to help their kids live a healthy, safe and successful school year. Families can submit their thoughts by visiting LighterSaferGreener.com. One grand prize winner will be awarded $1,000, while 10 first prize winners will receive vouchers for Airwear lenses valued up to $400. On LighterSaferGreener.com can learn more about Airwear’s eco-friendly practices and view more of Aldrich’s tips to ensure kids have a healthy, safe and successful school year.

These are the my Top 10 Tips:

1.  Make sure your child gets a good breakfast every morning.  This helps give them the fuel they need to have a good day.

2.  Keep an open dialogue with your child's teacher.  This keeps you in the know of what is going on in your child's school life.  The teacher is more likely to tell you about your child's if they know you care.

3.  Watch your child for any signs of trouble your child may be having.  If you spend time with your child on a daily basis you can see any changes in your child.

4.  Make sure your child gets enough rest.  If your child is rested they can learn more.  It is hard to concentrate when you are tired.

5.  Make sure your child gets a healthy lunch.

6.  Eat supper with your child  every night.  You can learn a lot by listening and what better time to talk then at dinner time.t

7.  Help your child with their homework.  You will know what is going on at school and can learn if your child is having problems with a subject.

8.  Let your child do something after school to unwind before starting their homework.  Golfergirl plays golf.

9.  Talk to your child about safety on the computer and monitor their activities.

10.  Keep an open line of communication with your child.  This way they feel safe telling you anything.

I wrote this blog post while participating in the TwitterMoms and Airwear blogging program, making me eligible to get a $25 gift card. For more information on how you can participate, visit http://airwear.twittermoms.com/about.

The KN Karen Neuburger® lifestyle brand is synonymous with comfort-inspired fashion apparel and home merchandise. The brand’s comfort promise can be experienced in heritage sleepwear and loungewear for the whole family, crafting products, women’s accessories, bath and body products, hospital apparel, and the KN Luxury Home®

The Chenille Lounge Socks ($15), available at www.karenneuburger.com and Bon-Ton stores nationwide, cushion and comfort, with supportive rubber grippers on the bottom which I love.  I am know to be clumsy so this was very much appreciated to help me not fall on my tile floors.

Golfersmom take on them:

I love to wear socks all the time.  Our house is built on concrete so even with carpet and tile floors it can be cold.  I loved these socks they were so comfortable and warm.  They fit well too.  I have larger calves and these stayed up and did not roll down like some others socks I have worn before. I love the grippers on the bottom of the socks also.  They help when I am walking on the tile floors.  With normal socks I am slipping all over the place but not with these!!!!!

The Giveaway

Caryn from Skirt Publications has been kind enough to offer two (2) of Golfersmom's readers their very own pair of KN Karen Neuburger Chenille Lounge Socks!!

30 th Anniversary DVD review of Caddyshack

This is the 30th anniversary of the movie Caddyshack. Golfersdad loves this movie and was excited when Warner's Brothers sent it out for a review.

Synopsis:
Greenskeeper Carl Spacker is about to start World War III- against a gopher.  Pompus Judge Smalls plays to win but his nubile niece Lacey Underall wants to score her own way.  Playboy Ty Webb shoots perfect golf by becoming the ball.
And country club loudmouth Al Czervik just doubled a $20,000 bet on a 10 foot putt.  Insanity? No. Caddyshack.

Chevy Chase, Rodney Dangerfiled, Bill Murray and Ted Knight tee off for a side-splitting round of fairway foolishness that does for golf what National Lampoon's Animal House did for fraternities and Police Academy did for law enforcement.  With Harold Ramis directing, the virtuoso skills of all four blend into a riotous hole in one for comedy fans.

Available on DVD:
June 8, 2010
The standard definition DVD has been updated with new 5.1 audio and contains special features: Caddyshack: The 19th hole and the theatrical trailer.  The film will also be available day and date on Video on Demand from cable and satellite providers and for electronic download from online retailers.

Dallas 13th Season DVD reveiw

I loved watching Dallas with my Mom when I was little.  I remember climbing in her lap and watching Jr. and Bobby.  It was just something we did on Friday nights.  I was excited when I got to review the complete Thirteenth Season from Warner Brothers.  It brought back a lot of wonderful memories.
 Synopsis:
For J.R. Ewing, Season 13 is as unlucky as a steer at at Texas barbecue.  He starts by lying and cheating Ewing Oil to the brink of destruction and ends by kicking and screaming in a psychiatric hospital.  In between he tries of his pretty young wife, seethes while Cliff Barnes's political star rises and bumps into a past he didn't know he had.  Meanwhile, Clayton and Miss Ellie investigate a multiple-murder mystery, folks from seasons past unexpectedly return to stir up trouble and Bobby stays busy removing J.R.'s knives from his back, chasing after a Pam look- alike, and bringing a new Mrs. Ewing to South Fork.  Y'all come 'round and meet the happy couple!!

I received the DVD series from Warner Brothers. All opinions are mine and are not influenced by receiving the DVD.

Tom and Jerry Tales Season 1

Tom and Jerry Tales Season 1 so funny.  I love the old cartoons that I used to watch when I was young and now Golfergirl is watching them as well.  It is just something that I can put in and not have to worry about what is going to come up in the next screen.  I am very picky in what I let Golfergirl watch.  I do not want her watching shows with bad language .  With the Tom and Jerry shows I do not have to worry about that.

Synopsis:
There is no stopping them! Tom and Jerry recently returned to the TV limelight to continue their wham-bam winning streak of comic catastrophes and merry mouseadventures in the all-new series Tom and Jerry Tales
Join the pursuit with this 2 Disc, 13 Episode Collection of their Complete first season.  Each episode features 3 cartoons chock-a-block with the familiar fur-flying, fun packing chases, schemes and pranks that delight
kids and their parents time and time again.  That's a total of 39 animated escapades in which you can try and keep up with them.  But you can't keep from laughing!

Chicken Soup for the Soul True Love Review/Giveaway

I love Chicken Soup for the Soul books. Whenever I am feeling down all I have to do is read a short story from one of the books and I feel much better. The True Love book has 101 heartwarming stories discussing dating, romance, love and marriage.

I think that this book will make you appreciate the love you have found or help in your desire to rekindle or find that one true love.

In True Love you can read about such stories as:

*The monk who never took his vows and eventually married the girl he secretly loved.
*The hysterically funny"husband instruction manual"
*The husband who writes 22 poems for his wife for their 22nd anniversary
*The couple with a young daughter who have "breakfast and a movie dates" while she is in school.

There is a story that will touch your heart in some way. The story that made me cry was the one about the dying man who wakes up to sign one last Valentine's Day card for his wife and then passed away. This one was a real tear jerker but I loved it.

Golfersmom has one Chicken Soup for the Soul True Love to Giveaway to one lucky reader.

Skin MD Review

The weather here in Tennessee has been anything but ordinary. We have had our coldest snowiest winter in many years. The cold weather has been terrible for our skin. We go from the cold outside to the warmth inside causes my hands to be dry and flaky. I was very happy when I was given a chance to try the Skin MD Natural lotion.

I have tried the product for about 3 weeks and I can see a difference in my skin. The first few days I could not tell a lot of difference. The next week however I could tell the flaking had stopped and my hands were much softer.

As most of you know Golfergirl is out in the sun most of the summer playing golf, so I was glad that Skin MD has also come out with a lotion that has a SPF15. This will be very useful this summer when we are out in the sun a major part of the day.

I really liked the product. It was not greasy or heavy feeling like a lot of lotions. I could put it on and not have to wait for it to dry. I would recommend this product to anyone. Golfergirl also liked it.

If you would like to buy this lotion please click here.

Executees Review

About the Company:
“Executees is the place to shop for Premium Quality Embellished T-Shirts, Apparel & Accessories. Executees uses LARGER sized Swarovski Crystals on our Apparel compared to our competitors. Our Tees stand out in a crowd and are a Piece of Jewelry. Executees does not space out our Crystal placement making them a constant flow of beautiful crystal designs without the big spacing that our competitors have for their garment designs.
Our Premium Tees can be used to replicate your corporate logos, company designs, organizational symbols, marketing slogans, group emblems, school teams, etc. We can crystallize your artwork to make a stunning T-Shirt.”

The Review:
Golfergirl was excited when she was given the chance to review this product. She got to pick out what she wanted the T-Shirt to say. I was not surprised when she picked this out to be on the shirt:
Golfergirls reaction: She loves the shirt. When I asked her what she liked best about it she stated:" No one else has one like this" She loves that no one else is going to have something that she has.
Golfersmom reaction: The shirt is so cute. I ordered the short sleeve shirt so she can wear it this spring and summer also. It was so cute over the white turtleneck. I was worried that the crystals would not stay on when it was washed. It has held up through three washes and not one crystal has come off. The black has not faded at all. I would recommend this company to anyone.

Check out the website to see some of their great products such as flipflops, caps and hoodies.
To keep up with the latest from Executees follow them on twitter.

Thanks so much for letting Golfergirl review this product.

Executtes provided the shirt for review but the opinion are 100% honest and not influenced by receiving the product.

POM Wonderful Review

I was sent some Pomegranate juice from POM Wonderful to try. I have to admit I have never tried a Pomegranate so I was little skeptical if I would like the juice.

About the product: POM Wonderful has great health benefits such as Antioxidants. There have been several Scientific Studies showing that POM Wonderful has helped Cardiovascular problems such as Blood Pressure and Diabetes Type II among others that can be found on the Scientific Studies page on the web site.

The Review: I was very surprised that I really liked the taste of the juice. Golfergirl however did not like the taste. She said it tasted "weird". Not sure what that means to a nine year old. I liked the health benefits that POM Wonderful has, so I really wanted to find a way for Golfergirl to still get the benefits. I was very happy that the POM Wonderful website has some wonderful recipes that use the juice.

Golfergirl loves smoothies so I decided to make the POM Morning Shake for her. I was a little sneaky since she did not know I was going to use the pomegranate juice.

Ingredients:
1 Cup POM Wonderful 100% Pomegranate Juice
3/4 Cup Low-Fat milk
2 Ice Cubes
1 Large banana peeled broken into chunks
2 Tablespoons sliced almonds (left these out of Golfergirls)
2 Tablespoons protein powder(optional) (left out of Golfergirls)
1 Teaspoon honey or to taste.

Directions:
Place all ingredients in a blender and blend for 30 seconds. Pour into two glasses and serve immediately.

Golfergirls reaction:
She loved it and wanted more. When I told her it had the juice in it she just gave me one of her "Mommy you got me looks" and kept drinking.

Golfermom's reaction:
I liked it both by itself and in the smoothie. I have to say the smoothie was delicious. I am going to try to some more of the recipes.

Buy it:
If you would like to find a store that carries the POM Wonderful products check the Store Locator
